Skip the crowded south end: enter at 103rd Street, take the Pool and the Ravine, and come out near the Reservoir with the light going. Twenty-five minutes each way, past the Statue of Liberty, with the skyline behind you on the return. In fall the air is clear and the boat is not packed with summer tourists. Stand on the right side going out. Pair it with dinner in the Financial District or a walk up to Mercer Labs if you want an indoor second act.
