August Wilson's Seven Guitars plays a 1:00 PM performance at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse on December 31. The Newhouse is a thrust stage with roughly 300 seats, so Wilson's 1948 Pittsburgh backyard — blues, grief, comedy, a murder told backwards — happens a few feet from the audience. It is the serious-theater option on a night dominated by open-bar parties, and an afternoon slot on the Upper West Side leaves the evening free for dinner or a Lincoln Center-area bar. Tickets through Lincoln Center Theater.
