The Noguchi Museum

Long Island City, Queens

Isamu Noguchi's own museum and sculpture garden in Long Island City, showcasing his stone carvings, furniture and Akari light sculptures.

The Noguchi Museum is housed in a former photoengraving plant that sculptor Isamu Noguchi converted himself in Long Island City, wrapped around an outdoor sculpture garden. It was the first museum in the U.S. established by a living artist to show their own work.

The museum is open Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–6pm, with last entry at 5:30pm; tickets are sold onsite. Admission is half-price through November 1, 2026 while second-floor galleries are closed for installation, and free on Free First Fridays.

Reachable via the N/W to Broadway or the 7 to Vernon Blvd–Jackson Ave, it pairs well with a walk to nearby Socrates Sculpture Park.

**Tickets & prices:** General admission $16 ($6 seniors/students); free for children under 12 and on Free First Fridays — see [noguchi.org](https://www.noguchi.org/museum/visit/plan/).

About This Place

The story behind The Noguchi Museum.

Isamu Noguchi opened the museum in 1985 to present his sculpture, furniture design and stage work in a space he designed himself.

The collection spans early stone and wood carvings to the paper Akari light sculptures, with rotating exhibitions exploring his legacy.

Why We Love It

An intimate, artist-designed space where the building, garden and sculptures feel like a single artwork — a quieter counterpoint to Manhattan's big museums.
