Motorists along a lonely stretch of highway are reporting chilling encounters with a ghostly young woman.
Dozens of drivers cruising a highway outside of Birmingham have reported seeing a young woman all in white beside the road late at night.
Moments later, their vehicles die, forcing them to pull over to the side of the road-then restart as soon as she vanishes.
“I was on my way south when my car cut out,” recalls Burl Stangle, a librarian at a Birmingham-area high school. “I’d just gotten back from the Volvo dealership one day before, so I figured maybe they’d put a filter in wrong or forgotten to clamp down a fuel line or something. “I got out, popped the hood and was using my cell phone as a flashlight to look around the engine when I suddenly realized I wasn’t alone.
“I looked up and there was this girl, totally ordinary, except she was glowing white.
“She started walking away without a word, but I had the presence of mind to snap a photo on my cell phone. A second later, she was gone and the car started back up by itself.
“It was probably the creepiest experience of my life.”
Short-haul trucker Chris Jackson was running produce from a farm to a Birmingham distributor when his truck stopped dead.
“I’d heard drivers talking, but figured they were making it all up,” he says. “But there I was, no sign of why my engine wasn’t working, when she just walked by on the other side of the street. “She didn’t even look at me when I said, ‘Howdy,’ and a second later, she faded away.
“My truck started back up like magic and I took off.”
Local investigators believe the girl might have been a hitchhiker who died along the highway 79 years ago.
